Vin Diesel has shared an open letter to Dwayne Johnson, asking the wrestler-turned-actor to return to the mainline Fast and Furious movies.
Luke Hobbs is one of the most popular heroes of the Fast and Furious franchise, but the character was noticeably absent from 2019’s F9 due to some much-publicized beef between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson. However, the feud between Diesel and Johnson may be coming to an end, as the former has taken to his social media pages to ask for a truce.
This morning, Vin Diesel took to Instagram to post a photo of his Fast and Furious character Dominic “Dom” Toretto alongside Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs. In the caption, Diesel asks Johnson to reprise his role as Hobbs for Fast and Furious 10, which is currently slated to hit theaters in April 2023.
“My little brother Dwayne… the time has come,” Diesel wrote on Instagram. “The world awaits the finale of Fast 10. As you know, my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don’t send well wishes… but the time has come. Legacy awaits. I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to Pablo. I swore that we would reach and manifest the best Fast in the finale that is 10! I say this out of love… but you must show up, do not leave the franchise idle you have a very important role to play. Hobbs can’t be played by no other. I hope that you rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny.”

While Luke Hobbs didn’t make an appearance in F9, Dwayne Johnson’s Fast and Furious character received a spin-off movie that also featured Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw. Directed by Deadpool 2 helmer David Leitch, Hobbs & Shaw was released in 2019, grossing a little over $760 million at the worldwide box office. A sequel to the spin-off is currently in development.
Vin Diesel’s Dominic “Dom” Toretto was last seen in F9: The Fast Saga. Here is the official synopsis for the movie:
Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, this year’s The Suicide Squad).
F9 sees the return of Justin Lin as director, who helmed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters of the series when it transformed into a global blockbuster. The action hurtles around the globe—from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tblisi. Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.
Directed Justin Lin from a script written by Daniel Casey, Fast and Furious 9 stars Vin Diesel, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Cardi B and Sung Kang, with Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron.
