Fans have long wondered how much Vin Diesel has been getting paid for saying only five words during his tenure as Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy series, with rumors circulating that the actor had made over $50 million dollars from his role. James Gunn, who directed the Guardians of the Galaxy films, was quick to correct the record.
This rumor was started by a Twitter user who claimed that Vin Diesel was paid roughly $54 million dollars during his time as Groot. Counting his role in Avengers: Infinity War, this would put Vin Diesel’s Marvel payday at roughly $13 million dollars per appearance. It’s a hard number to put into perspective. According to Forbes, if this rumor was true, it would put Diesel as one of the highest earning actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rivaling that of Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson.
James Gunn was quick to debunk the rumors once they came to his attention, using an emoji to laugh at the prospect and insisting the number wasn’t real in his own tweet on the matter. While it wasn’t clarified exactly how much Diesel makes for his role in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, it can be assumed it’s nowhere near as ludicrous as first speculated. Though fans shouldn’t worry about Diesel’s financial status. Given his starring role in the Fast and Furious franchise, he’s rich in the only currency that matters: family.
