Viola Davis is in talks to star in her own Peacemaker spin-off, focusing on her character, Amanda Waller.
Viola Davis first appeared in the DC Extended Universe as Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad. A ruthless government agent, Waller was in charge of Task Force X; a black ops group made up of supervillains who take on the hardest assignments with high casualty rates in exchange for reduced prison sentences. She would go on to reprise the role for James Gunn’s sequel, The Suicide Squad, and for the HBO Max spinoff, Peacemaker. Now it appears the character will be getting her own series.
According to a new report from Deadline, a new Peacemaker spinoff series is in the works for HBO Max. This series will apparently focus on Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller who will also executive produce the series for the Warner Bros. streaming service. Watchmen writer Christal Henry will write and also executive produce the series. James Gunn will also be involved in an executive producer role.
This news confirms what James Gunn has said in the past. Previously the director had said that more The Suicide Squad spinoffs were in the works. Whether or not this will be the first or the last of these proposed projects remains to be seen.

PEACEMAKER explores the continuing story of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of executive producer James Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad – a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it!
The series was created by James Gunn, who wrote all the episodes and directed five of them. The first season of the HBO Max series consists of eight episodes, with Brad Anderson, Jody Hill, and Rosemary Rodriguez also directing episodes. Clint Mansell and Kevin Kiner also composed the DC show’s score.
The HBO Max series stars John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.
All episodes of Peacemaker are now streaming on HBO Max. Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller series currently does not have a release date.
