Walt Disney’s ‘Gigantic’ Release Date Moved Back

Walt Disney Animation Studios

Walt Disney’s Gigantic will be changing release dates. The film will now arrive in theaters on November 21, 2018. The original release date was March 9, 2018 but now Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be taking that release spot.

Gigantic is a different take on the classic story of “Jack and the Beanstalk” and was announced back in August 2015 at Disney’s D23 Expo. The film is set in Spain during the Age of Exploration. Jack befriends an eleven year-old giant named Inma after finding her in the clouds.

The project is being directed by Nathan Greno (Tangled) and is being considered a movie musical. The songs are being written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who are best known for the massively successful Frozen.

As previously reported, during a live Facebook broadcast by Disney today, Rich Moore, Phil Johnston and John C. Reilly confirmed that Wreck-It Ralph 2 was in development. Not only did Reilly confirm the sequel, but he announced that Wreck-It Ralph 2 would hit theaters March 9, 2018.

When Reilly was about to disclose more information, the stream froze, but on the posted stream it was revealed Ralph would leave the video game and destroy the internet. This lines up with the image Disney released for the sequel which depicts Ralph standing above various internet company names, albeit changed slightly.
