Warwick Davis returns as Willow in a new trailer for the upcoming Disney Plus series.
Way back in 1988, Lucasfilm produced a fantasy adventure film called Willow. Directed by Ron Howard, it starred Star Wars veteran Warwick Davis in the titular role and featured early starring roles for Val Kilmer and Joanne Whalley. Sadly like many other fantasy films of the decade, Willow was a box office dud and failed to wow critics, and no feature film follow-up was ever made.
Following Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, the Mouse House set about putting as many of the studio’s properties to work. This eventually included a Willow series for the company’s new streaming service Disney Plus. Production officially started early last year but very little has been revealed about the upcoming film until now.
During Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase Panel at the Star Wars Celebration the trailer for Warwick Davis’ new Disney Plus series Willow was revealed along with the upcoming show’s release date:
Here’s the official synopsis for Ron Howard’s feature Willow:
When a good-hearted farmer named Willow Ufgood discovers a baby girl prophesized to end the rule of the evil queen Bavmorda, he sets out on an adventure to return the child to her people. Encountering all manner of creatures and characters, Willow finds both companionship and villainy along with a newfound skill as a sorcerer.
In addition to Warwick Davis, the series also stars Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, Tony Revolori, Amer Chadha-Patel, Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, and Talisa Garcia. The series writers include Hannah Friedman and Jonathan Kasdan. The series directors include Stephen Woolfenden, Jamie Childs, and Debs Paterson.
Willow is set to premiere on Disney Plus on November 30th, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
