HBO released the official synopsis for the series premiere of Watchmen.

The Watchmen mythos will soon expand with the premiere of Damon Lindelof’s series of the same name for HBO. While details on the Watchmen series are scarce, HBO has now released the official synopsis for the debut episode and it offers fans a hint at what to expect in the first season.

Based on HBO’s synopsis, the events of the Watchmen series will kick off when the attempted murder of a fellow officer prompts Detective Angela Abar to launch an investigation. You can read HBO’s official synopsis for Watchmen premiere, titled “It’s Summer and We’re Running Out of Ice,” below:

In an alternate America where police conceal their identities behind masks to protect themselves from a terrorist organization, Detective Angela Abar (Regina King) investigates the attempted murder of a fellow officer under the guidance of her friend and Chief, Judd Crawford (Don Johnson). Meanwhile, the Lord of a Country Estate (Jeremy Irons) receives an anniversary gift from his loyal servants. Written by Damon Lindelof; directed by Nicole Kassell.

Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, WATCHMEN embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.
