‘Werewolf By Night’ Director Reveals Reason Behind Colorized Cut Release

A colorful return!

Werewolf by Night Marvel Studios

Werewolf By Night is set to return to the small screen this Halloween, now in color! Director Michael Giacchino reveals why they decided to release a colorized version of the monster thriller.

Werewolf By Night immediately stood out among its Disney Plus brethren due to the choice to release the project in (mostly) black and white. When it was announced the special would return this year, this time in color, fans questioned why they would strip away one of the projects’ defining feature. According to director Michael Giacchino, he thinks it’s simply a fun way to bring fans back to the world of monsters and madness:

“We started doing some tests, and we were like, that’s cool,” Giacchino explained. “We were well into this a year ago – wanting to do this and share this. We thought after a year of people having seen it, it’s been up there, it would be fun to reintroduce it in another way – in another version of what horror really is, which is in those old movies that I used to love growing up from Hammer horror films, which were these saturated colors and stark lighting.”

Fans certainly welcome the return of the titular Werewolf By Night and, perhaps even moreso, Man-Thing, given their absence from the MCU since this special. It’s possible that they were originally meant to return for another Disney Plus presentation before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike, though that’s purely speculation. For now, fans should enjoy reliving the haunt in full color!

An MCU Monster Mash!

Werewolf by Night stars Gael García Bernal, Laura Donnelly, Harriet Sansom Harris, Al Hamacher, Eugenie Bondurant, Kirk Thatcheras Jovan, Jaycob Maya, and Daniel Watts. Michael Giacchino directed the special from a script written by Peter Cameron and Heather Quinn. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige serves as Executive Producer.

Werewolf by Night is now streaming on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the special, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
