Who Is Victor Timely? ‘Loki’ Season 2’s New Kang Variant Explained

A Timely introduction!

Victor Timely Jonathan Majors Kang Variant Loki Season 2 TVA

Jonathan Majors has officially made his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a brand new Kang variant in Loki season 2. Here’s everything fans need to know about the Disney Plus original character Victor Timely, a.k.a. the TVA’s “luminary”.

Victor Timely was born in Chicago, Illinois. While not much is known about the early life of this Kang variant, it’s clear he had an interest in science at a young age. Upon the discovery of a TVA repair manual in 1868 (secretly left for him to find by Ravonna Renslayer at the suggestion of Miss Minutes), Timely was inspired to recreate their machines to the best of his ability.

25 years later, Victor Timely would participate in the 1892 Chicago World’s Fair, where he would use the schematics inside the TVA manual to create his temporal loom. Shown off in the display of Victor Timely’s Astounding Temporal Marvels, Timely claimed the loom could weave temporal energy into enough power to light up the whole of Chicago.

If you take his word, that is. Despite having big dreams and a passion for science, Victor Timely lacks the technology to bring the TVA’s inventions to life, leading the “luminary” to be a second-rate huckster who scams people for cash. It isn’t until Loki, Mobius, and Ravonna Renslayer all collide that he’s introduced to the true potential of his ideas.

This variant of Kang is a far cry from the version of Victor Timely in the comics, who’s simply a disguise worn by Kang to act as mayor of Timely, Wisconsin, and set up Timely Industries. He’s far more “Tony Stark” than the “Nutty Professor” caricature played by Jonathan Majors in Loki season 2.

Whether Victor Timely lives up to his legacy as a Kang variant is yet to be seen. Though with how well-received Loki season 2 has been thus far, Timely may be yet another successful Disney Plus creation for the MCU, potentially rivaling the beloved Orobourous played by Ke Huy Quan.
