As the first look photos from Disney’s live-action Aladdin were released, Will Smith confirmed on his Instagram that his Genie will, in fact, be blue.
Ever since the teaser for the live-action adaptation of the beloved animated film Aladdin first dropped, fans everywhere could not wait until they got their first look at the Genie. The character will be played by actor Will Smith and as soon as the first look photos dropped, Smith made a big confirmation that is a big deal for all the true Aladdin fans out there. Just like the original, Smith’s Genie will have the signature blue color everyone remembers. The character was made famous by the legendary Robin Williams in the 1992 Aladdin animated movie. Everyone has their fingers crossed that the Fresh Prince is the man for the job, but we won’t know for sure until the movie hits theaters next year.

Directed by Guy Ritchie from a script he co-wrote with John August, the film stars Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders, and Numan Acar as Hakim.
Aladdin will be released in theatres on May 24, 2019.
