Will The Justice League Show Up In ‘The Batman’?

Another crossover?

Robert Pattinson The Batman Opening Weekend Box Office

Director Matt Reeves has revealed if the Justice League will show up in The Batman.

Batman is a unique character in that he can operate as a vigilante-like hero who is completely grounded in reality or someone who exists in a world of flying men in tights and underwater kingdoms. Previous live-action renditions of Batman have mostly stayed rooted in reality, especially Christopher Nolan’s take on The Caped Crusader that dominated the 2000s. It wasn’t until Ben Affleck’s take on the character that The Dark Knight was introduced to the Justice League as a whole.

With The Batman set to hit cinemas shortly, fans have been wondering if Matt Reeves’ brooding take on the hero will feature fantastical elements. Speaking more clearly, will the film feature the superpowered Justice League, which exists as part of DC’s ongoing Extended Universe.

In an interview with Esquire, Matt Reeves touched upon Ben Affleck’s original script for the film, which was scrapped after the star decided to step away from The Caped Crusader. With Reeves fully on board as writer and director, he sought to create a story that focused on the corruption of Gotham, not the various superpowered heroes of DC.

“Ben [Affleck] had been working on a version of the script and I said, ‘Here’s the thing: I respect that the DC Universe has become an extended universe and all the movies were kind of connected. But another Batman film, it shouldn’t have to carry the weight of connecting the characters from all those other movies. I didn’t want them in there.”

“I wanted to do a story in which the corruption of Gotham was one of the most important aspects of the story, because Gotham is a sick place. Bruce is desperate to try and make a change.”

Sounds like fans shouldn’t wait with bated breath as it looks like the Justice League won’t pop up in The Batman. Those disappointed by the news shouldn’t fret as Michael Keaton’s Batman is set to appear in future DC Extended Universe films, which should mean tons of Justice League action coming our way.

Here is the synopsis for The Batman:

Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman will hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
