A brand new concept design imagines Willem Dafoe as the Joker for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman.

While Spider-Man: No Way Home may have dominated the end of 2021, the beginning of the new year belongs to Robert Pattinson’s The Batman. One of the most anticipated films of the year, The Batman will focus on Bruce Wayne’s early days as The Caped Crusader. As Wayne reckons with his alter-ego, he’ll come across the likes of Carmine Falcone, Catwoman, The Riddler, and The Penguin. Interestingly enough, the Joker hasn’t been teased.

The Joker has long been Batman’s nemesis and is arguably the most popular villain of all time. Even though we last saw Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker in the titular film of the same name in 2019, a new Clown Prince of Crime hasn’t been announced for the Robert Pattinson film. While it’s unknown if The Batman will feature the Joker, fans have been hoping to see Willem Dafoe as the deranged anarchist.

Willem Dafoe has always succeeded in maniacal roles and would be a fantastic Joker. While Dafoe as the villain is a bit of an obvious choice given his stint as the Green Goblin in the Spider-Man films, the star has previously worked with Robert Pattinson and their chemistry has been eclectic. While the future for the Joker is uncertain, a new concept design has imagined Willem Dafoe as the character.

Created by artist Jaxsonderr, the concept design brilliantly hypothesizes what Willem Dafoe would look like as the Joker. The take on the character is traditional in nature but what excites us the most is imagining just how amazing the star would be as Batman’s foil.

Here is the synopsis for The Batman:

“Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman will hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming film, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
