Kalibak was almost a key part of Wonder Woman! The film’s writer reveals a number of scrapped elements from the project, including a cut post-credits scene.
Wonder Woman is one of the few movies from the old DC Universe that is generally, uncontroversially, considered good. However, much like any movie, there was a lot about the project that never found its way onto the silver screen. Though given the maelstrom the franchise has been oin ver the past few years, there hasn’t been much introspection on scrapped content aside from the occasional leaked post-credits scene.
Luckily for fans, the film’s writer Jason Fuchs recently sat down with the Happy Sad Confused podcast to discuss his recent work on IT: Welcome to Derry. During the chat, he also briefly touched on his work on Wonder Woman. Fuchs revealed that there was plenty of scrapped content that didn’t make it to being filmed, including a completely different setting for the film’s conflict.
“We had an initial draft that took place in the Crimean War, and there was a great encounter between Diana and Florence Nightingale, right before Diana participated in the charge of the Light Brigade. That was a pretty cool moment.”
Wonder Woman’s Scrapped Post-Credits Scene
However, it seems it wasn’t just the setting of Wonder Woman that was scrapped during development. Jason Fuchs also reveals that there was an entire post-credits scene that didn’t see the light of day. According to the writer, the scene revolved around Darkseid’s son Kalibak, suggesting the film would’ve been tied closer to the upcoming Justice League film.
“There was also a version of that script that ended with a post-credits sequence that included Kalibak, a great deep-cut DC canon character that I always liked.”
Given the direction that the DC Universe would take with Darkseid, it’s likely for the best that a post-credits scene featuring Kalibak was held back from Wonder Woman. And while all this scrapped content is interesting, it’s likely for the best that Jason Fuchs (and the film’s other writers) went the direction they did.
A Wonder Woman reboot is officially in the works at DC Studios. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe!
