woody-harrelsonWe previously heard that Woody Harrelson was in early talks for the Han Solo Star Wars spin-off starring Alden Ehrenreich, but now Disney and Lucasfilm have officially confirmed that the actor has joined the cast of the highly anticipated project.

Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller had the following to say about the casting:

“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody. His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”

Although it’s not mentioned in the press release, Harrelson’s mysterious character is said to be the mentor of Ehrenreich’s Han Solo. The cast also includes Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke in an undisclosed role.

Harrelson is a film and television veteran who’s best known for his roles in projects such as Zombieland and HBO’s True Detective, as well as the Hunger Games franchise, where he played another mentor figure, Haymitch Abernathy. He’ll next be seen in this year’s War for the Planet of the Apes as the main antagonist.

Production on the the yet-to-be titled Han Solo movie should begin next month for a May 25, 2018 release, although that could change if recent reports are to be believed.
