Is X-Men ’97 connected to the Marvel multiverse? A new Easter egg teases a hidden connection to the What If…? Disney Plus series.
X-Men ’97 is the second animated Marvel series for Disney Plus following the runaway success of What If…? on the service. X-Men ’97 has managed to replicate that success in becoming one of the most beloved MCU projects to date despite not even being connected to the main universe.
However, it seems that connection is becoming much thinner over time. The latest episode of X-Men ’97 included a shocking Easter egg connecting the project to the MCU. Right before the episode’s explosive action set piece, eagle-eyed fans were able to spot The Watcher in the skies above Genosha, cementing a connection between What If…? and the X-Men series.
X-Men ’97 Keeps Getting Bigger
This What If…? easter egg serves as the first connection X-Men ’97 has to the broader MCU. While it’s not likely these specific characters will be teaming up with the Avengers anytime soon, the tease could mean they appear in future seasons of What If…? or other similar animated shows on Disney Plus.
X-Men ’97 may also be getting its own universe sometime soon. Rumors suggest Marvel is looking into possibly expanding their animated universe by reviving other animated shows from the same time period, replicating something akin to a 90s animated MCU.
X-Men ’97 is currently streaming on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
