X-Men ’97 has officially found its new head writer! Marvel has brought on a familiar face to helm season 3 following Beau DeMayo’s exit from the series.
Fans have been worried about the fate of X-Men ’97 ever since the project’s lead writer, Beau DeMayo, was fired by Marvel Studios. It’s currently unclear why the studio parted ways with the main face behind the series. However, the choice made fans wary that season 2 and season 3 may not reach the high bar set by the show’s freshman outing.
By all accounts, X-Men ’97 will still be maintaining a roughly similar writers room heading into season 3. However, it seems Marvel Studios isn’t going to be maintaining one of the project’s staff writers into the head writer position. Instead, it seems they’ll be poaching talent from another Disney Plus show to replace Beau DeMayo.
Marvel Brings Key What If…? Writer To X-Men ’97
In a new report by Deadline, its now been confirmed that Marvel has brought in Matthew Chauncey to replace Beau DeMayo as head writer heading into season 3 of X-Men ’97. Chauncey recently took over for the production of season 3 of What If…? following the departure of head writer A.C. Bradley, seemingly making him the studios’ go-to choice for a replacement.
Matthew Chauncey and the rest of the team behind X-Men ’97 seem to largely be sticking to Beau DeMayo’s plan heading into season 2, albeit with modified scripts. However, season 3’s story will be entirely created by Chauncey, who had previously written What If…? episodes such as What If… Zombies?! and What If… Strange Supreme Intervened?
