20th Century Fox has officially released an image featuring Sophie Turner as Jean Grey in the next installment of the X-Men franchise, Dark Phoenix.

The film which stars Turner takes another crack at the classic Dark Phoenix saga, following the franchise’s first attempt with X-Men: The Last Stand. The comic book storyline features Jean Grey struggling to control and succumbing to the Phoenix Force within her.

X-Men producer Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with the film. He is also producing the picture with Hutch Parker and Lauren Schuler Donner. Following the release of the first theatrical trailer this past September, the film was pushed back to Summer 2019 due to the film’s reshoots, which were delayed because of Turner’s schedule as she had been committed to filming the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is directed by Simon Kinberg and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.

“In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.”

The film is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men franchise as we learn it.
