The X-Men are finally here! The latest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday has hit the net, and it brought everyone’s favorite mutant team along for the ride.
It’s safe to say that every trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is just getting better and better. While the first one featuring Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers has been endlessly clowned on, the trailer focusing on Thor was received relatively well. And now that the third trailer is here to introduce the X-Men, hype for the project has officially reached an all-time high.
Only a select few X-Men are shown in the trailer, with the footage mainly focusing on Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and James Marsden’s Cyclops. However, that doesn’t make the trailer any less glorious. Comic-accurate costumes, wanton destruction, and the arrival of Sentinels signal that stuff is finally getting REAL in the MCU.
The X-Men’s Role In Avengers: Doomsday
Unlike the previous trailers, this trailer more than likely gives fans the villains of Avengers: Doomsday. It may seem strange to call the X-Men villains, but it’s more likely than not that the mutant team will be the main obstacle everyone’s favorite heroes will have to face in the MCU’s next big crossover. At the very least, the cast of the X-Men sure seems to be fighting a lot of the other heroes.
This trailer likely reveals why. The X-Men have seemingly suffered major casualties on their side, which explains Cyclops’ explosive emotional reaction. If leaks of Avengers: Doomsday are true and the incursions are threatening their entire planet, it’s not shocking that the team would take a “kill or be killed” mentality to the rest of the MCU.
