Michael Fassbender had one of the most memorable performances in comic book history as Magneto in the X-Men franchise. However, during that time, Fassbender was also rumored for the role of Kylo Ren in the Star Wars universe.
Rumors that Michael Fassbender had auditioned to play Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequels following his success as Magneto in the X-Men films have been circulating ever since he first revealed he lost out on a role in the newest trilogy. When asked about this during a recent interview, Fassbender shut down the idea he was set to play the iconic anti-hero who was ultimately portrayed by Adam Driver.
“Who is Kylo Ren?” Fassbender said during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “Honestly, I can never remember the names. No, no, no, it wasn’t. No.” The actor then jokingly added: “It was Yoda’s grandfather; he never made it into the actual movie.”
It still isn’t exactly clear who Michael Fassbender was supposed to play in Star Wars if not for Kylo Ren. Though given the actor’s age and celebrity status following his role as Magneto in the X-Men franchise, it’s likely he was almost a prominent member of the main cast.
