RUMOR: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Joining ‘Mad Max’ Prequel With Furiosa

A brand new rumor suggests that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be joining a Mad Max prequel focusing on Furiosa.

Mad Max: Fury Road has been hailed by many as one of the greatest action flicks of all and rightfully so, as the film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, winning a whopping 6. There have been numerous talks of a sequel but director George Miller and Warner Bros. haven’t been particularly keen on putting more fuel in that tank. However, a new rumor suggests that there are talks of a prequel focusing on Furiosa, the stand-out character from the 2015 Mad Max film. And while the project appears to be in its early stages, the report indicates that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be joining the Furiosa-centric film.

As revealed by Collider’s Jeff Sneider, the Mad Max prequel will be moving forward with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in a pivotal role. Considering the fact that the Mad Max project is a prequel, there’s a chance that Furiosa won’t be played by Charlize Theron. Currently, director George Miller is working on Three Thousand Years of Longing, which will star Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton. The project only recently began filming which means that the Mad Max project starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II could still be a few ways away.

As for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, he seems to be in Warner Brothers’ good graces as he’s starred in many of their projects lately. Most recently, he was seen in their superhero projects Aquaman and Watchmen. With respect to the sci-fi genre, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is currently filming The Matrix 4. If this project pans out, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will have four franchises under his belt from the same studio.
