Watchmen star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II teased an “exciting” script while commenting on his role in The Matrix 4.

Over a decade after The Matrix Revolutions concluded the film series, a fourth film is set to continue with original co-creator Lana Wachowski at the helm and actor Keanu Reeves returning as Neo. Joining the cast of The Matrix 4 will be Watchmen star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, although details on his role have not been divulged.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II remained silent when asked about the details of his role in The Matrix 4. However, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II noted that he’s excited to be a part of The Matrix 4 and teased an “exciting relevant” script for the project:

“Nah. I would love to talk about The Matrix! But I’m very excited to do it. A great team and I think there’s going to be a lot of … it’s a very exciting relevant script that I’m honored to be a part of.”

The Matrix and its two sequels collectively earned a total of $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss portrayed Neo and Trinity, respectively, in all three chapters of the Matrix film series, each of which were directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski.

Directed by Lana Wachowski from a script she co-wrote with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchel, The Matrix 4 stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Iron Fist star Jessica Henwick was recently reported to be in talks for a lead role. Production on Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix 4 is reportedly eyeing an early 2020 start date with Lana Wachowski also serving as a producer alongside Grant Hill.
