Yahya Abdul-Mateen II recently took to Instagram to share a brand new workout video for The Matrix 4.

The return of the Matrix franchise is upon us and with filming beginning next month, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is hard at work getting into shape for his role in the fourth installment of the series. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is set to star in one of the lead roles alongside The Matrix mainstay Keanu Reeves, who will be reprising the role of Neo after more than 17 years.

In the video, which features Woah by Lil Baby, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is doing a rigorous workout, which no doubt will reflect his character in The Matrix 4. Yes, Keanu Reeves is ripped, but he’s not that ripped, which makes us think that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s character might be someone who specializes in intimidating others. On the other hand, many believe that he’ll be playing a young Morpheus in The Matrix 4.

Details on The Matrix 4 are slim to none, but it wouldn’t be surprising to hear if Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was announced as the film’s villain. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II previously portrayed Black Manta in 2017’s Aquaman, a role that launched him to international stardom. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is also no stranger to franchises, as he most recently appeared as Dr. Manhattan in HBO’s Watchmen.

The Matrix and its two sequels collectively earned a total of $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss portrayed Neo and Trinity, respectively, in all three chapters of the Matrix film series, each of which were directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski.

Directed by Lana Wachowski from a script she co-wrote with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchel, The Matrix 4 stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, and Neil Patrick Harris. Iron Fist star Jessica Henwick was recently reported to be in talks for a lead role. Production on Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix 4 will begin filming in early 2020 with Lana Wachowski also serving as a producer alongside Grant Hill.
