Shazam! Fury of the Gods was a failure critically, commercially, and even from a PR perspective. The film’s star, Zachary Levi, has finally addressed his future in the DC Universe following the film bombing.
Despite the original Shazam! finding a surprising amount of success, Fury of the Gods was unable to recapture the magic, leading to massive losses at the box office. This left Zachary Levi’s future in the DC Universe unclear, especially with a reboot by James Gunn and Peter Safran on the horizon. When talking about if he’d return, Levi admitted he isn’t sure about the direction they’ll take:
“I don’t know what the future holds, because Fury of the Gods was not well received. I have no idea where we go from here” he told the FilmUp podcast before adding “It’ll be one of those things that people will go back and watch, on home streaming or on a plane or whatever, and they’ll be like ‘Well, wait a minute!'”
Truly nobody aside from James Gunn and Peter Safran know what lies ahead for Zachary Levi and his Shazam! Fury of the Gods co-stars in the DC Universe. While some actors like Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck were quickly given the axe, others like John Cena and Viola Davis are confirmed to survive the transition into the new universe. Though given Levi’s film was such a massive bomb, Shazam fans shouldn’t keep their fingers crossed.

The film stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, D.J. Cotrona, Grace Caroline Currey, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Marta Millans, Cooper Andrews, Djimon Hounsou, Rachel Zegler, Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren.
The official Shazam! Fury of the Gods synopsis reads as follows: “Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos. But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.”
