Director Zack Snyder discussed Jimmy Olsen’s DC Extended Universe death during his live commentary of Batman v Superman.

To celebrate the fourth anniversary of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder took to the social media platform Vero to perform a live commentary track for the film. Zack Snyder gave numerous details regarding the film’s storied production and clarified questions or thoughts that fans had. One of the earliest discussions the director had on the live-stream was regarding everyone’s favorite photojournalist Jimmy Olsen.

In Batman v Superman, the character is briefly seen alongside Lois Lane in Africa as her photographer. His appearance is cut short as he’s killed when it’s discovered that he’s actually a CIA agent. During the live commentary, Zack Snyder discussed some details regarding Jimmy Olsen, revealing that this version of the character speaks four languages. The prolific director also confirmed that the character is indeed dead.

“It’s cool that he’s in the CIA. He speaks 4 languages. Jimmy has never really been involved…. People always ask me if he’s dead. Do we see him again? I don’t think so.

Despite Superman coming back to life in his universe, Zack Snyder clarified that his iteration of Jimmy Olsen was explicitly murdered and that it wasn’t a cover agent taking on the name. Zack Snyder also pretty much confirmed that his version of Jimmy Olsen probably won’t be gracing the silver screen again. The director points out that if this were a television show, Jimmy Olsen could potentially come back to life. As disappointing as that is to hear, the proof was in the pudding as Jimmy Olsen’s death in Batman v Superman seemed pretty definitive.
