As Heroic Hollywood exclusively reported, Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut is coming to the HBO Max streaming service.
Earlier this year, Zack Snyder held a screening of his Justice League cut with DC executives in attendance. The screening took place in the first quarter of 2020, before the coronavirus pandemic brought Hollywood productions to a standstill, and it was enough to convince the executives to finally release the Snyder Cut. During a special watch party for Man of Steel, the director officially revealed that his cut of Justice League was going to finally be released on the HBO Max streaming service in 2021.

Zack Snyder left the director’s chair of Justice League in May 2017 following a family tragedy. He was replaced by Joss Whedon, the director behind The Avengers and its follow-up Avengers: Age of Ultron, and the changes he made to Justice League left a number of fans unhappy, leading to the creation of the “#ReleaseTheSnyderCut” movement.
The iconic DC Comics villain Darkseid was originally going to play a larger role in the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League and subsequent DCEU films. However, after Whedon assumed directorial duties during post-production and oversaw extensive re-shoots for Justice League, Darkseid was removed from the theatrical cut and Warner Bros. reassessed their plans for future DC films following the underwhelming reviews and box office gross of the superhero team-up film.
Previously, in a comment on Instagram, Ares actor Nick McKinless revealed that there was apparently an entire fight sequence between Ares and a younger Darkseid when he first invaded Earth. The actor said he trained for four months to get in God of War shape for the now uncredited role in the movie. Zack Snyder’s original 5 movie-arc for the DC Extended Universe was said to include scenes of Young Darkseid vs Ares and the other Greek Gods in the first invasion of Earth, the murder of Lois Lane and half the Justice League, and Darkseid taking control of the heartbroken Superman with the Anti-Life Equation.
Here’s the official synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Justice League:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Directed by Zack Snyder, the film stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
