Zack Snyder says Jared Leto was behind the famous “we live in a society” line from Joker memes heard in the trailer for Justice League.

The Snyder Cut will finally be released tomorrow on HBO Max, and one of the most-anticiapted parts of the film is the return of Jared Leto’s Joker. We’ve seen a glimpse of Leto’s Joker in the trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, where he uttered the “we live in a society” line made famous by various Joker memes over the years.

As it turns out, the line didn’t end up in the finished Justice League film, but they still shot it during additional photography back in October. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Zack Snyder revealed Jared Leto and Ben Affleck actually didn’t shoot the scene together due to scheduling conflicts. The director also credited Leto for saying the famous Joker line on set:

“We went back and forth a bit, and I’ll give Jared credit for that little ad-lib there, because it was really, really beautiful.”

Here is the official synopsis for the Snyder Cut:

“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will hit HBO Max on March 18, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Jared Leto’s Joker in the Snyder Cut leading up to its release, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
