Justice League director Zack Snyder recently addressed the upcoming JJ Abrams Superman reboot featuring a Black Kal-El.

We’ve seen plenty of Superman over the years with Henry Cavill in the DC Extended Universe, but there hasn’t been a solo project since Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel in 2013. Cavill has expressed his desire to continue playing the character, but Warner Bros. is moving in a new direction under JJ Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates.

JJ Abrams’ Superman film will also reportedly feature a Black Kal-El and be set in the 20th century. The project is still in early development, but the recent reports prompted the Radio Times to ask Zack Snyder to share his thoughts on the future of Superman on the big screen:

“My feeling is that I love JJ [Abrams], I love what he’s done in the past. I’m interested to see what happens, it’s a bold and cool and probably long overdue move. But I love Henry [Cavill] as Superman, of course I do. He’s my Superman.”

Zack Snyder’s days at Warner Bros. appear to be over as the director promotes his latest film, Army of the Dead, for Netflix. As such, Snyder admitted he’s not really involved with the studio anymore now that his Justice League cut has been released:

“I’m not really involved in any of the decision-making at Warner Brothers in any way, so I guess for me it’s just wait and see what they do with this and how it manifests itself. But on the surface, it seems interesting.”

Here is the synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Justice League:

“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”

Zack Snyder’s Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
