Warner Bros. and DC are officially looking for their Batgirl, with Zoey Deutch and Isabela Merced being among the actresses testing for the coveted role.
Deadline reports that Zoey Deutch (Set It Up), Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) and Leslie Grace (In the Heights) are on the list of actresses testing for the role of Batgirl. Haley Lu Richardson, best known for her work in Five Feet Apart and Columbus, is also in the mix, according to TheWrap. Grace and Richardson are said to be the top contenders.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are set to direct Batgirl, which is being planned as a movie for the WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max. The two most recently directed the 2020 box office hit Bad Boys for Life and episodes of the upcoming Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel. Christina Hodson, the screenwriter behind Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the script.
The Batgirl movie is expected to follow the Barbara Gordon iteration of the Gotham City heroine. Barbara was last seen in a live-action feature film in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, with Alicia Silverstone playing the iconic DC Comics character.
The next Gotham City-based movie is The Batman, which is shrouded in secrecy. We know that the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger version of Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as the Dark Knight. The film will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the hero. It is expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films with Pattinson.
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding HBO Max’s Batgirl and future of DC Films. Also, make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content.
