John Krasinski originally did not want to make A Quiet Place: Part II but recently revealed why he decided to tackle a sequel.

John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place was one of 2018’s biggest success stories. The film grossed over $340M  worldwide on a $17M budget and currently holds a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. A sequel was quickly put into the works but, as it turned out, Joh Krasinski was hesitant to return to the property.

While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, John Krasinski revealed that it was the idea of making Millicent Simmonds’ character the main protagonist that brought him back along with the theme of growing up:

“The one idea I had was to make Millie [played by Millicent Simmonds] the lead of the movie, and in doing that, she gets to bring all these themes that my character had, Emily’s character had, and these ideas of the hopes and dreams you have for your kids and how they fulfill them. So this is about growing up. This is about adolescence, and man does she do a good job.”

John Krasinski also revealed that the reason why he was he was hesitant to return to the franchise, thinking that there was no way he could top the first film:

“I said I would never do a second one. Nothing could be as personal or be as organic to me as the first one, and turns out, I think I like this one better.”
