New Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker concept art offers a look at alternate designs for Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren mask.
Early on in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren destroyed his own mask after being berated by Supreme Leader Snoke. However, the creative team behind the next film, The Rise of Skywalker, wanted to bring the mask back for the final chapter of the sequel trilogy.
In a post on social media, concept artist Jake Lunt Davies explained that he and costume designer Glyn Dillon both came up with the idea of turning to the Japanese art of kintsugi or kintsukuroi to repair the mask. The post also included concept illustrations that reveal that alternate designs for Adam Driver’s new Kylo Ren Mask in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
