Sony’s ‘Masters Of The Universe’ Character Lineup Revealed (Exclusive)
Sony is set to take a stab at turning He-Man and the Masters of the Universe into their next big franchise and Heroic Hollywood has learned which characters the studio is currently looking to cast in the film.
Noah Centineo has been cast in the lead role as He-Man himself in Masters of the Universe which will be based on the Mattel franchise of the same name.
Sony’s Masters of the Universe centers on the conflict between He-Man, the secret identity of Prince Adam, and the villainous sorcerer Skeletor on the planet Eternia. The franchise previously spawned an animated TV series that ran from 1983 to 1985 and 1987 live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren.
The Nee Brothers, Adam, and Aaron Nee are directing the reboot from a script written by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Sony’s Matthew Milam will oversee the project for the studio and Mattel is a partner on the film. Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch are producing alongside Franklin Entertainment’s DeVon Franklin. While David S. Goyer previously in talks to direct the film, he remains on board the project as an executive producer and screenwriter.
With Sony’s Masters of the Universe film finally coming to fruition and set to begin filming this summer after years in development, we’ve learned which characters the studio is currently to cast for the project.
Skeletor
Of course. How could Sony’s Masters of the Universe movie not include the most dangerous threat to Eternia?
While details are slim, the studio is looking for a male actor in his 40s to take on the role of Skeletor, He-Man’s most dangerous antagonist who won’t rest until he has the secrets of Castle Grayskull which would allow him to become the master of the universe.
King Randor
The head of Eternia’s government and descendent of King Grayskull who now reigns over Eternia. The noble King is also the father of both He-Man and She-Ra.
Details on what kind of actor the studio is looking to cast for the male character have yet to be revealed.
Teela
Sony is looking for an actress in her 20s to take on the role of Teela.
Teela is one of the earliest Masters of the Universe characters developed. She is the Captain of the Royal Guard at the Palace of Eternos and often assists He-Man in his battles, although she has no idea He-Man is actually the alter-ego of Prince Adam.
Zodak
Lastly, we have Zodak. Details on what type of actor the studio is looking to cast for the male character are still under wraps.
Zodak is an immortal Eternian and an opponent of the Snake Men after living during the prehistoric conflicts between the Ancients and the Snake Men. The character was originally developed as a reworking of the Zodac character from the 1980s but has since come into his own within Masters of the Universe lore.
