Mephisto may finally be on his way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Agatha All Along may have just teased Aubrey Plaza’s connection to the villain through Blackheart.
Any MCU fan from the time Wandavision came out remembers how much buzz there was around the possibility of Mephisto showing up in the series. With Agatha All Along set to carry the torch of the series, the internet was already prepared to debunk any silly rumors that might spring up. However, it seems Aubrey Plaza’s character may be hiding the truth in front of fan’s faces.
For those who didn’t watch the first two episodes of Agatha All Along, it’s heavily implied in the first episode that Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal is an ex of Agatha Harkness. Heading into episode two, the titular witch is attempting to form a coven to enter the Witches’ Road. Obtaining a list of witches needed to complete the journey, many expected Rio to slot in as the team’s green witch. However, the symbol in her name’s place should be familiar to anyone privy to MCU speculation about Mephisto: A black heart.
How A Black Heart Connects To Mephisto
In the comics, Blackheart is the “son” of Mephisto, being formed as an avatar of accumulated evil. Given Aubrey Plaza has teased the MCU fans will “go crazy” when the true nature of her character is revealed, it’s likely that she’s playing someone big. With Agatha All Along associating her role with a black heart, it’s hard not to draw the connection between her mysterious witch Rio Vidal and the constant boogeyman that haunted Wandavision.
Of course, it’s possible the black heart is just another tease by showrunner Jac Schaeffer. Given how fans were convinced Mephisto would appear in Wandavision, it’d only make sense for its successor series to be associated with Blackheart. However, given rumors that Marvel’s most iconic demon is headed his way to the MCU sooner rather than later, Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal may truly be the villain hiding in plain sight.
