Did phase 5 belong to Agatha All Along? The reviews for the series on Rotten Tomatoes paint a surprisingly positive reception for the Disney Plus series.
When it was first announced that Agatha All Along would be coming to Disney Plus, many fans considered it a death knell to Marvel’s plans for phase 5. While many called for Wandavision to get a sequel following its historic critical run, Agatha Harkness wasn’t seen as a popular enough character to carry a show on her own.
Much of this criticism began to wane when Agatha All Along finally hit Disney Plus. The series had a massive surge in viewership, gaining 9.3 million global views within its first week. This eclipsed The Penguin, another comic book show coming out around the same time, which only got just over 6.3 million views within its first five days. However, anyone who’s kept up with phase 5 knows that viewership doesn’t always equal quality, leaving eyes on Rotten Tomatoes to see where reviews would land for the series.
Agatha All Along Smashes Phase 5 Records
While reviews for Agatha All Along have been positive throughout the series’ run on Disney Plus, its final score on Rotten Tomatoes cements an outcome that almost nobody was expecting. The show ended its run with a stunning 83% with both critics and audiences. This squeaks out a win over Loki season 2, which currently sits at 82%, making it the best reviewed Marvel Television project put out during phase 5.
Of course, these reviews don’t tell the whole story. While Agatha All Along has the highest score of any live-action phase 5 television show, X-Men ’97 beats it by a sizeable margin with a stunning 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. Many phase 4 projects also beat out the series, with Ms. Marvel sitting at a near-perfect 98% and Wandavision landing at 92%. Still, a score that high definitely deserves applause, especially from a project many people wrote off before it even aired.
