Alaqua Cox made a splash as Maya Lopez in Marvel Studios’ Echo, but does the character have a future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond her Disney Plus show?
Echo was one of the most surprising hits Marvel has ever put out. Fans immediately resonated with Alaqua Cox despite the Disney Plus show being written off as dead before it even arrived. Now fans are left waiting and wondering when Maya Lopez will return to the MCU. According to The Hollywood Reporter, while Marvel has no concrete plans, the company is looking to bring back the character along with other street-level heroes.
It certainly makes sense Marvel wouldn’t have a series renewal in the chamber given how big of a risk Echo was to put out. While there’s no way to know what the future holds, it’s likely Alaqua Cox will make some form of a cameo in Daredevil: Born Again. Whatever the MCU holds for Maya Lopez, one thing’s for sure: Marvel fans will be there to watch!
What to expect from the new Daredevil series
Marvel Studios recently scrapped the entire creative team for Daredevil: Born Again due to internal criticism. The previous incarnation of the show focused mainly on the legal aspects of Matt Murdock, with the hero not suiting up until episode 4. The series is expected to go through a complete creative rework to focus more on action and violence, just like the Netflix version.
Little is known of Daredevil: Born Again, with plot details being kept under wraps. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, Sandrine Holt, Margarita Levieva, Michael Gandolfini, Nikki M. James, and Michael Gaston are set to appear in the series opposite Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, a.k.a Kingpin.
Daredevil: Born Again currently has no release date for Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
