Fans almost saw a comic-accurate Doc Ock costume in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! New Spider-Man: No Way Home concept art reveals an alternate look for Alfred Molina’s Marvel villain.
Spider-Man: No Way Home was truly a best hits mix of the old and the new, bringing back iconic villains while reinventing key parts of their persona. One part of this that particularly pleased fans was Jamie Foxx’s Electro getting a new, comic-accurate look. However, concept art reveals Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock almost got a redesign alongside Electro.
This concept art reveals that Alfred Molina could have sported the iconic green and yellow jumpsuit in Spider-Man: No Way Home. It’s unclear why the team decided to go against the comic-accurate route for Doc Ock, though it’s likely to maintain the nostalgia of the original costume despite bringing the character into the modern era.
Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Concept Art Chaos
Alfred Molina getting a new costume as Doc Ock was far from the most interesting thing scrapped from Spider-Man: No Way Home. Infamously, concept art for the film showed that Jacob Battalon’s Ned Leeds would’ve followed the comic-accurate route as Hobgoblin. However, it’s unclear if Ned was ever meant to transform into the villain or if the scene would’ve just been an homage to his comic origins.
Concept art even showed that new villains would’ve joined Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock. Multiple pieces of concept art suggest that Michael Keaton was originally meant to appear as Vulture in Spider-Man: No Way Home prior to being scrapped. While these elements didn’t make it into the final cut, it ultimately culminated in one of the best superhero films out there!
Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
