Aliens and The Dark Knight Rises actor Jay Benedict has died at the age of 68 from complications he developed from the coronavirus.

TCG Artist Management confirmed that Aliens and The Dark Knight Rises actor Jay Benedict recently passed away following complications after he was diagnosed with the coronavirus. Jay Benedict is best known for his role in James Cameron’s Aliens as Russ Jorden, Newt’s father in Hadley’s Hope on LV-426. It was a brief appearance, but immediately memorable. The star also appeared in Christopher Nolan’s final film in his Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, as one of Gotham’s richer members of society targeted by Catwoman and Bane.

Jay Benedict’s family posted a short statement on the star’s blog, stating that he passed away on April 4 due to complications from the coronavirus. Jay Benedict’s agents at TCG Artist Management posted a brief heartfelt message following the star’s death. Aside from Aliens and The Dark Knight Rises, Jay Benedict appeared in a number of British shows and had a small role as Deak in the deleted scenes of Star Wars: A New Hope. Deak was one of Luke Skywalker’s friends when he lived with Owen and Beru on Tatooine. Jay Benedict appeared as Deak alongside other characters Luke socialised with away from the moisture farm — Windy, Camie and Fixer. Unfortunately Benedict’s scenes didn’t make it into the theatrical version of A New Hope.

In addition to appearing in Aliens and The Dark Knight Rises as well as starring in a number of British dramas, including the long-running Emmerdale and Foyle’s War, Jay Benedict also briefly appeared in the Netflix black comedy Lilyhammer in 2012. The star appeared as an F.B.I. agent connected to Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano. He was married to Phoebe Scholfield and the pair had two sons, Leopold and Freddie. Benedict also has a daughter, Alexis, from an earlier marriage.
