‘Spider-Man’ Star Andrew Garfield Lands Second Best Actor Nomination

Tick, Tick... Boom! hive stays winning.

Andrew Garfield Spider-Man: No Way Home

Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield has received his second Best Actor nomination for this year’s Oscars.

Andrew Garfield’s highly-praised performance as Jonathan Larson for Tick, Tick… Boom! has landed the Spider-Man star his second Best Actor nomination. Based on the musical of the same name, Tick, Tick… Boom! is the autobiographical story of Jonathan Larson, the famed creator of Rent. The Netflix original directed by Hamilton star and scribe Lin-Manuel Miranda meditated on Larson’s creative and personal hurdles as he tried to enter the theatre industry.

The musical was highly-praised for its sharp music, confident directing from Lin-Manuel Miranda – in his debut, and Andrew Garfield’s shockingly authentic portrayal of Jonathan Larson. While the film didn’t land Netflix a Best Picture nomination, it did manage to receive a nod for Best Film Editing.

Tick, Tick… Boom! marks the Spider-Man star’s second Best Actor nomination after 2017’s Hacksaw Ridge. One notable omission from today’s Oscar announcement was Spider-Man: No Way Home, a fan favorite to receive a Best Picture nod. Sony and Marvel consistently championed for the film to get some love from Academy voters but the film failed to secure a nomination. The Spidey threequel notably featured Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire reprising their respective Peter Parkers, which made for cinematic history.

Andrew Garfield’s Tick, Tick… Boom! is streaming on Netflix and is definitely worthy of your time.

On the other hand, Spider-Man: No Way Home is still dominating cinemas. You can check out the synopsis below:

For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.
