The Flash director Andy Muschietti teases a time travel storyline in Ezra Miller’s upcoming DC superhero film and discussed a bit of the Flashpoint inspiration.

It’s been a long road to get to Ezra Miller’s upcoming film, The Flash and it is still not over yet. After numerous script rewrites and directors leaving the project, the film seemed to finally settle down with its creative team, with Andy Muschietti taking over directorial duties and Birds of Prey writer Christian Hodson penning the script. Sadly The Flash is facing one more obstacle in the form of the coronavirus but that hasn’t stopped its director from teasing its plot.

For some time, it has been known that the Ezra Miller film would be based at least in part on the Geoff Johns comic, Flashpoint but it was unclear how much of the comic would make its way into the film. We know that Michale Keaton is in talks to return as Batman for the film and will take Thomas Wayne’s place in the comic and that it will not involve the war between Atlantis and the Amazons.  Andy Muschietti did state in a recent interview with Oren 67, however, that the plot will involve Ezra Miller’s The Flash trying to save his mother:

“It is a story of time travel: Flash travels back to try to save his mother. It is a spectacular action movie but it has a big heart ”

What do you all make of Andy Muschietti’s words? Are you surprised to hear that Ezra Miller’s The Flash will still involve the character trying to save his mother? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash will be inspired by the Flashpoint comic storyline which followed The Flash as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles. It is currently unknown how much inspiration the upcoming Ezra Miller film will take from the comic.

The Flash is set to hit theaters on June 3rd, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding Ezra Miller’s upcoming film, The Flash, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
