Andy Serkis has officially closed a deal to direct Tom Hardy in Venom 2.
Sony’s Venom proved to be a massive box office success despite the negative reception from critics, with the Tom Hardy film going on to earn a worldwide total of $855 million. Development on a Venom sequel began soon after with Tom Hardy set to reprise his role as the eponymous anti-hero.
However, director Ruben Fleischer will not be returning to the director’s chair for the Tom Hardy sequel and The Hollywood Reporter sources say Andy Serkis has officially signed on to direct the second Venom film. Andy Serkis, who is best known for his groundbreaking motion capture work, is said to have flown into Los Angeles earlier this week to hold meetings set by “Sony brass” to discuss the matter.
Sony reportedly wants the Venom sequel to begin filming in November. The script for the film was written by Kelly Marcel while Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, and Woody Harrelson are expected to reprise their respective roles.
