Anson Mount returns to the MCU as the Inhuman leader Black Bolt in a new concept design for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Anson Mount previously played Black Bolt in the ill-fated Inhumans series, which proved to be one of Marvel Studios’ first major flops. The king of the Inhuman people of Attilan, Black Bolt possesses a voice of such immense destructive power that he lives his life in silence for the safety of all those around him.

While Inhumans ended after just one season, some fans have hoped to see the Inhumans – a secret civilization who gain superpowers from exposure to the Terrigen Mist – reintroduced to the MCU via a soft reboot. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could offer a perfect opportunity for a fresh take with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange on hand to welcome the Inhumans into the MCU proper.

Inhumans strayed from the traditional comic-book appearance of many of its key characters, while also remaining largely disconnected from the wider MCU. If the Inhumans were to be reintroduced, perhaps via the multiverse, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could fix these problems with their previous depiction. A new concept design created by artist “” on Instagram imagines Anson Mount’s Black Bolt in his classic comic costume, including the iconic mask that was dropped from his Inhumans depiction. Check out the design below:

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is already expected to boast an impressive cast of characters from across the MCU and beyond, with Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and more expected to join Benedict Cumberbatch’s Master of the Mystic Arts. Anson Mount’s Black Bolt and the other Inhumans could be a powerful addition to the mix.

Here is the synopsis for the upcoming film:

The MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by Michael Waldron, the Marvel movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stuhlbarg, Rachel McAdams, and Patrick Stewart.
