In a recent tweet, Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed revealed that he encourages fan theories and even hinted at the possible return of a character from 2015’s Ant-Man.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for many things and one of them is returning characters. The MCU is a huge franchise packed with iconic characters, so sometimes a character has to be benched for a while before making a triumphant return. Examples of this are characters like the Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger and Avengers: Infinity War, Thunderbolt Ross in The Incredible Hulk and Captain America: Civil War, and Happy Hogan in Iron Man 3 and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
In a recent tweet from Peyton Reed, director of both installments of the Ant-Man franchise, he first revealed that he encourages fan theories about his films. In the same tweet, Reed also revealed that a recent fan theory suggesting the return of Ant-Man character Mitchell Carson (Martin Donovan) may not be too far off from the truth. Though the director teased how the character could return, he didn’t confirm the character will be back for a potential third Ant-Man movie. Check out the tweet from Reed below.
Yes I do encourage fan theories! This is an interesting thought, @IniciativaV. Does Mitchell Carson still have a vial of Cross Particles in his possession? Is he keeping tabs on Hank, Hope and Scott? He certainly has no love for Hank Pym. Who knows when or how he may turn up..? https://t.co/MBajM4xx6d

Although Ant-Man and the Wasp didn’t make quite as big of a splash as Marvel films like Black Panther or Avengers: Infinity War, it did still manage to outgross the first film by earning over $600 million at the worldwide box office. A sequel to Ant-Man and the Wasp has yet to be officially announced but given the secrecy surrounding the upcoming MCU release schedule beyond Spider-Man: Far From Home, this should come as no surprise. Especially considering the fate of the Van-Dyne’s and even Ant-Man himself in the film’s post-credits scene, which tied in directly to Avengers: Infinity War.
The Marvel film currently available to purchase on VOD services, with the physical Blu-ray set for release on October 16th. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding the future of the Ant-Man franchise as more information becomes available. What are your thoughts on Ant-Man and the Wasp?
