Bucky and Captain America are back!

Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan are butting heads once more! The Captain America star teases a reunion with Bucky Barnes may be on the horizon in Avengers: Doomsday.

One of the most beloved bromances in the MCU is the relationship between Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. It’s a dynamic that stretches all the way back to 2014. And while Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan have traded a few cameos, the two haven’t properly shared the screen since Falcon and the Winter Soldier. This has left many to hope that Captain America would reunite with his favorite sidekick sometime in Avengers: Doomsday.

And luckily for longtime fans, it seems that hope may be coming true. Anthony Mackie recently sat down with Screen Rant to help promote the new season of Twisted Metal on Peacock. During the conversation, he teases that Bucky Barnes is still fighting with Sam Wilson in Avengers: Doomsday, and that the Captain America co-stars were chatting just the other day.

“I talked to Sebastian yesterday,” Mackie remarked. “We’re still butting heads. All we do is fight!”

Mackie Teases An ‘Evolving’ Avengers Film

Yet it seems that, while a reunion between Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes is inevitable, Avengers: Doomsday is still very much in flux. Anthony Mackie explained that, despite being months into production, he’s nowhere near done filming scenes as Captain America for the upcoming film. However, that’s also seemingly why Marvel movies are so special.

“No. Hell no. No, we are in the midst of it. I mean, it’s such a big, moving set piece, and it’s such a big story. The best part of shooting a Marvel movie is that it’s always an ever-evolving canvas. There are those staple pieces, and then there are the pieces that circulate throughout the course of the shoot.”

It makes sense that actors like Anthony Mackie would enjoy the sandbox nature of productions like Avengers: Doomsday. It allows, for lack of a better term, the actors to spread their wings and really dig into the characters. It also has some benefits for the audience, allowing seamless banter between the actors for characters like Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, as the actors are comfortable enough with their characters to adlib while still adhering to their personalities.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
