‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’ Prequel Comic Plot Revealed

An OUTRAGEOUS new adventure!

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is set to get a prequel comic before the film’s release later this year. The official solicitation from DC Comics reveals the triple pronged plot for the story.

It’ll have been five years between Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom sequel (or perhaps more if rumors of a delay are true), meaning fans will have a lot to catch up on in the life of Arthur Curry. Luckily, DC comics have announced a prequel comic to fill in the gaps between the films, including details about Black Manta’s new suit, Orm’s daring escape, and even a mission with the Justice League:

“Discover the shocking events that connect the smash-hit Aquaman movie to the eagerly anticipated Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom!” The solicitation reads. “Aquaman balances his duties as king and as a member of the Justice League, all while planning a wedding! Black Manta is on the hunt for Atlantean tech to help rebuild his armor! Orm plots to escape his Atlantean prison! Three action-packed tales crammed into a single special!”

While fans will certainly get a kick on seeing more from Orm and Black Manta, the biggest revelation from this Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom prequel comic solicitation is that Aquaman is set to be an active member of the Justice League prior to his wedding. It’s possible that this comic will give fans a concrete answer as to if it’s canon to the new DC Universe, as any appearance from Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, or Michael Keaton would confirm it isn’t. Though given the film may be delayed even further, continuity is likely the least of fan’s worries.

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with both DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
