A series of delays!

It seems as though in just a few days of SAG-AFTRA joining the WGA on strike, Hollywood is already considering some massive changes. Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly eyeing to delay Dune 2 and changing the release date for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

One of the unforeseen consequences of SAG-AFTRA joining the WGA on strike was a halting of promotion for films, not just from the actors, but by many fans as well. This has led a number of companies such as Warner Bros. Discovery to reconsider the dates of some of their biggest projects, which includes potentially delaying the star-studded Dune 2 to 2024 and shuffling the date of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Currently, Dune 2 is set to release on November 4 and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set for December 25. Both projects are some of Warner Bros. Discovery’s biggest upcoming films and are already fighting an uphill battle in crowded markets, with Dune 2 facing off against The Marvels and a new The Hunger Games film, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom going against Wonka and a new Ghostbusters. While it’s unclear if Aquaman 2 will be delayed or moved to Dune 2‘s slot, both films can certainly use from showing off their purposefully star-studded cast. The only question is if Warner Bros. Discovery can afford any more delays due to the SAG-AFTRA & WGA strike.

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with both DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
