New promo art for Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom has been released. The drawings tease the DC Studios film’s climax between Arthur Curry and Black Manta, as well as the return of the controversial star Amber Heard as Mera.

While she has mostly stayed out of the marketing of this film, new promo art features her return to the DC Universe alongside Jason Momoa:
Aside from the return of Amber Heard as Mera, the promo art also teases the apocalyptic climax between Black Manta and Arthur Curry in front of an exploding volcano. While it’s hopeful that Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom will be able to avoid the recent curse of DC Studios films bombing at the box office, it certainly faces an uphill battle in winning over certain fans with Heard remaining on the cast.
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
