Black Manta’s father makes an appearance in the latest image from the next installment of the DC Extended Universe, Aquaman.

The advertisements for Aquaman showcase a world full of many different creatures, weapons, costumes, and characters. A character who is very important to the motivation of one of the film’s villains has finally made an appearance in a new image ahead of its December 21st release date. In The New 52, a reboot of the DC comics that began in 2011, Aquaman (Jason Momoa) was responsible for the murder of Black Manta’s (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) father.

The death was an accident but it fueled the rage in Black Manta and it seems like that will be the case when Aquaman hits theaters this month. Michael Beach will be playing the role of Jesse Kane and as fans can see in the image below, he will be joining his son on one of the missions featured in the trailer.

This sequence, which has been featured in many of the trailers, is presumably the moment that will kick off the feud between Aquaman and Black Manta but fans will have to wait and see the film on the big screen to find out. Check out the image of Michael Beach as Jesse Kane, alongside co-star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, below.

The trailers and posters for Aquaman showcase the action and spectacle of the film but, thankfully, much of the character depth has been left to be seen when the film arrives in just a few weeks. Black Manta isn’t going to be the only foe that Aquaman will be facing off against in the film, though. Along with Black Manta, King Orm (Patrick Wilson) will act as seemingly the main foil for the DC Comics hero.
