Jason Momoa is headed back to the DC Universe! The Aquaman star has seemingly confirmed that James Gunn has called him in to play Lobo.
Jason Momoa has always been seen as the perfect fit to play Lobo in the DC Universe. Even back when he was playing Aquaman, fans seemed to generally agree that they’d be happy with him playing double duty if it meant playing the glorious Bastich on the silver screen.
Jason Momoa himself has always been receptive to this casting. The actor was always vocal about his love for Lobo during his time as Aquaman, calling it the “perfect role” and a character whose comics he’s always collected. This left many hopeful that, with the actor’s time as the Defender of the Deep coming to an end with James Gunn and Peter Safran’s reboot, he could finally take up the mantle of the last Czarnian.
Is Jason Momoa Playing Lobo In The DC Universe?
It seems these hopes have finally come true. In an abrupt piece of casting news, Jason Momoa posted to Instagram a screengrab of an interview expressing his interest in playing Lobo in the DC Universe. This came along with the caption simply stating “They called,” suggesting that James Gunn and Peter Safran called him in to play the Fraggin’ ferryman in an upcoming project.

As for what DC Universe film Jason Momoa will appear in, Deadline reports that Lobo will make his debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. This makes the strange casting announcement make a bit more sense, as James Gunn has confirmed that the film will start production next month. Given how prominent of a star Momoa is, especially following the success of Aquaman, this would be a hard secret to keep if it didn’t come out soon.
