Now it seems director Craig Gillespie is rounding out his crew. A recent report confirmed by James Gunn on Threads reveals that Rob Hardy has officially signed on as the cinematographer of the film!
While most people don’t know Rob Hardy, they certainly know his work. He has an impressive resume of sci-fi and action epics, including but not limited to Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Annihilation, Ex-Machina, and Civil War. It’s clear Craig Gillespie and James Gunn wanted a DP comfortable working with bombastic projects for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, painting a good sign for the upcoming DC Universe project.

Fans of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow may worry that Rob Hardy may be unable to capture the gorgeous colors and otherworldly atmosphere from the original comic. However, James Gunn and Craig Gillespie clearly took that into consideration when choosing the cinematographer. Hardy won a BAFTA award for Boy A, which he parlayed into a job on the Red Riding trilogy that is famous for its use of hallucinatory imagery and advanced camera work.
Of course, Rob Hardy is only a single piece of the team Craig Gillespie and James Gunn are assembling for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Every member of the crew will be instrumental in assuring the DC Universe’s most risky film so far turns into a hit. Though given how much the studio is swinging for the fences, they certainly seem confident in hitting a home run!
