Is Armor Wars officially dead? The MCU’s latest rumor suggests that Don Cheadle’s long-awaited solo film has been cancelled after years of silence.
Armor Wars is perhaps one of the most interesting projects in the recent memory of the MCU. It was first announced as a Disney Plus series, meant to bolster the offerings of the service fresh off the hype of Avengers: Endgame. Yet even as projects like Loki and WandaVision found their way to release, Don Cheadle’s solo adventure as War Machine kept getting pushed further and further back.
It was eventually announced that Armor Wars was no longer in development for Disney Plus. Rather, it would be joining the MCU’s feature film slate as a film, with Don Cheadle still attached to star in the project. James Spader and Sam Rockwell were reportedly being courted to return as Ultron and Justin Hammer respectively in the movie. However, no official news has come out about the project since 2022.
Is Armor Wars Cancelled?
The reason for this drought has seemingly been revealed by MyTimeToShineHello. The newest rumor from their profile reveals that Armor Wars has ultimately been cancelled. While the scooper didn’t disclose a reason for the project ultimately being scrapped, he did lament the fact that Don Cheadle won’t be getting his own movie on the silver screen as War Machine.
If this rumor is true, it didn’t come out of nowhere. It’s been reported that the Vision series is set to repurpose plot points from early drafts of Armor Wars. While some thought this could mean a new direction for the film to better align with the current direction of the MCU, it ultimately seems that Marvel pushed Don Cheadle’s project to the side to focus on other ventures in the ever-saturated superhero market.
There is currently no release date slated for Marvel Studios’ Armor Wars. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming project, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
