Kang’s time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may not be over quite yet! A new rumor suggests Marvel is looking for a new villain to star alongside him in the upcoming Avengers film.
Fans have been wondering how Marvel would approach Kang in the next Avengers project ever since Jonathan Majors was fired from the role late last year. While nothing official has come out about a recast, recent reports have suggested that Marvel wants to move away from the character in the future of the MCU.
However, this doesn’t mean they want to scrap the character entirely. According to scooper DanielRPK, Marvel wants to keep (a recast) Kang as the villain in the next Avengers film but is looking to add another villain to share the spotlight. There’s currently no word on what character would be joining him as the main villain.
Who Could Replace Jonathan Majors’ Kang?
The biggest name fans have been waiting for the next Avengers movie in place of Kang is Doctor Doom. Given the character played a large role in Secret Wars, putting him in Kang Dynasty could serve as an introduction to the character before his part in the sequel. However, given Doctor Doom isn’t likely to appear in the MCU prior to the next Avengers film, it’s not likely he’ll be joining Kang.
The obvious choice is for Gugu Mbatha-Raw to return as Ravonna Renslayer. The character is already a close associate of Kang in the comics, and the actress had a standout performance in Loki. Increasing her role in the next Avengers film could serve to draw attention away from Kang without adding too many ingredients to the soup.
In regards to Kang’s future in the MCU, there’s no official word on who Marvel will recast as Kang for the next Avengers film. Rumors suggest that the studio is eyeing The Walking Dead star Colman Domingo for the part, with the actor himself even admitting he’d welcome the conversation. Though who actually ends up getting the role at this point is anyone’s guess!
