Avengers 5 Rumor Teases New and Returning Characters in MCU movie

Also is an "Avengers vs. X-Men" movie possibly in the works?

Avengers 5

With Wolverine and Deadpool primed to takeover the box office this summer, and put Marvel Studios back on solid footing after a lackluster 2023, some new developments are brewing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe regarding the future of Avengers 5.

While Jonathan Majors’ recent departure has cast some uncertainty over the role of Kang the Conqueror, media reports suggest that Marvel Studios has charted a new course on the main plot’s direction.

Avengers 5 Storyline

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios has apparently “figured out the direction” of the story for Avengers 5, which is rumored to feature a smaller team of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes than initially expected. While some new characters may be introduced, the Fantastic Four are not anticipated to make an appearance.

On a related note, Richtman has also shared that the casting for Galactus, the cosmic entity that is rumored to be the next big bad in the MCU, is close to being cast, with an announcement potentially imminent in the Hollywood trades. While Dune: Part Two‘s Javier Bardem was previously considered a frontrunner, other actors may still be in contention, similar to the surprising casting of Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer.

Is Avengers vs X-Men on the Horizon?

Furthermore, a more speculative rumor from Alex P. of The Cosmic Circus that should be taken with a grain of salt, suggests that Marvel may possibly be developing an Avengers vs. X-Men movie. However, given the studio’s plans for the X-Men are still in the earliest of stages, and Marvel Studios does indeed like to plan years in advance, it may be just a tad premature and a bit of stretch for that rumor to be accurate at this point.

As the MCU continues to expand and evolve, fans can expect more exciting updates and surprises in the coming months especially with San Diego Comic Con around the corner. Marvel Studios is expected to return to the Hall H stage and make quite the splash this summer.
